What Does the “Triquetra” Symbol Represent?

Triquetra, is a word derived from the Latin tri- ("three") and quetrus ("cornered"). Its original meaning was simply "triangle" and it has been used to refer to various three-cornered shapes. The triquetra has represented many things for many religions and cultures. It has been used as a powerful amulet since ancient times. To Christians it symbolizes the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son & the Holy Spirit. It also incorporates the Ichthys (fish) used as a secret symbol by early Christians. Bishop Theophile of Antioch, who died in 186 A.D., is thought to have been the first to use a similar symbol concept of the Holy Trinity.
